I’m Jenny, Communication Specialist and English Coach. I’m glad you decided to join me here.
I’ve always been fascinated by languages, but for the first fifteen years of my life, I only spoke one. In high school, I started to learn Spanish.
After the first couple classes, I was hooked! I used to walk around my city, trying to say the words for everything I saw, in Spanish. (“Árbol, calle, maestro…”)
I quickly learned that the grammatical structure of Spanish was a lot different from English, and that I would have a lot to learn. I continued studying Spanish at my university, and was accepted to a study abroad program in Quito, Ecuador during my junior year.
Immersing myself in the language and culture of Ecuador was an incredible experience that would give me a lot of insight into the challenges my future clients would face in improving their English. While living in South America, I began volunteering to provide support to English language learners who needed a little extra help.
After returning to the US, I continued working with language learners. Soon after graduating from my university with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and Spanish (double-major), and began teaching English as a Second Language to adults near downtown Los Angeles.
I think what I enjoy most about helping business professionals improve their English is the personal relationship I am able to build with each client.
I have two little dogs, Sadie and Maui, who are trained to “go to work,” when I have a client session. They will curl up near my desk on the floor and sleep, mostly—but you might see one of them jump up to join our session from time to time.

An Entrepreneur at Heart
In 2003, I started my first business, an educational services company, in Southern California. I ran that company for about twenty years, managing everything from day-to-day operations, to web design. During this time, I reviewed thousands of resumes and interviewed thousands of applicants.
This experience helped me develop skills I use today in coaching my job seekers. One thing I like to do with my clients who are looking for a new job is mock interviews, where we practice in a real-life setting, fine-tuning my clients’ speech as we go.
As a lifelong do-it-yourselfer, in 2018, I made my first batch of natural, artisan soap. People just started buying it! I realized I had accidentally started a second business. For the next five years, I would make and sell countless bars of soap at events, and online.
After closing my educational services business, I returned to something I’ve always loved—helping business professionals improve their English. In total, I have over twenty years’ experience in education and running small businesses, with 14+ years specifically in teaching and coaching English as a Second Language.

I believe the best way to learn a language is the way you learned your first one, which involves speaking exclusively in the target language. It’s not easy, but it works!
What’s a session with me like? You’ll be talking—a lot! But life isn’t all chit-chat. I will correct your speech, often taking notes, so we can find the errors together. We may do pronunciation drills, to help you differentiate between similar sounds.
During some sessions, we may read a short news article and focus on vocab and pronunciation, or watch a video clip and discuss the topic.
Are you a pro at idioms and phrasal verbs? What about grammar? If these are areas you need to work on, we’ll do exercises to improve your skills, while simultaneously working on your speaking skills.
